The US strategic mistake and ZELENSKY's despair (LJ©2024)

The repeated refusal of the United States and Germany to provide necessary weapons, such as long-range missiles, deprives Ukraine of the means to reach critical Russian logistics bases and disrupt enemy supply chains. Without these tools, the decisive battle that could inflict a strategic defeat on Russian troops will not take place. This lack of will to go all the way is a reminder of the West's inability to end conflicts despite its decisive firepower.

The battle of Kursk-Pokrovsk which is taking place right now could have marked a turning point, inflicting massive losses on the Russian army, with potentially 50,000 soldiers put out of action, like the historic defeat of Napoleon in Waterloo. Instead, this historic opportunity is being extinguished for lack of appropriate weaponry, allowing Russia to continue its assaults on Ukrainian territory.

The symbol of this failed battle is poignant: Pokrovsk could have become a new Waterloo for Putin, but the inaction of the West decided otherwise. While Russian forces advance towards Pokrovsk and other towns, carefully sparing Russian territory, the Ukrainian army continues to suffer considerable and unnecessary human and material losses, forcing it to continually retreat. How much longer will we have to wait for the West to finally provide the weapons necessary to defend Ukraine and defeat Putin?

Ultimately, it is difficult not to deplore the wait-and-see attitude of the Western Allies. If Ukraine must wait to build its own long-range missiles, it may be necessary for additional years of conflict before a favorable outcome emerges. The true glory of this war lies not with NATO forces or the United States, but with the courageous Ukrainian soldiers, who continue to fight tenaciously despite our lack of decisive, timely military support.
