"Helping save Ukraine from Putin's madness" is a nice proposition. This is not about sending money to NGOs whose actions are not tangible, but simply about saving on the price of gas, petrol and fuel.
It will suffice to reduce our consumption of hydrocarbons by 5 percent or to reduce our heating by 2 degrees. It is not an anti-social movement, denounced by the Communists, against the poorest and most destitute workers in France and by extension in Russia. Nor is it a question of "always favoring the richest" for the benefit of capitalism.
Reducing energy consumption is also not an "act of economic war" against Russia because it is the choice and the freedom of each of us, according to our possibilities and our convictions, to send a SIGNAL to the Russians and especially to their leaders who claim that their war is just and necessary.
We have already done this almost without knowing it in 2020. It was during the successive "lockdowns" In Europe to limit the spread of Covid-19. Reducing fuel and gas consumption has had a very positive impact on the planet and also on our economies. Oil was worth much less in France during confinement and it was sold at a loss in the United States. The major oil groups have since caught up well by raising prices considerably.
For us, it is first of all a GESTURE OF SOLIDARITY with UKRAINE, easy and almost elementary because it is within everyone's reach. We must therefore send a STRONG SIGNAL to Putin who is acting in a TERRORIST STATE against UKRAINE. We must also save planet Earth from climate change and both obligations are noble, so why not start right away?
Let's do it while this gesture makes sense: in a few weeks it will be too late to put pressure ON RUSSIA again. Putin will no doubt succeed in selling all his gas and oil to opportunistic China and countries known to be pro-Russian.
In two weeks at the latest, the Ukrainians will be largely defeated and they will have to abandon all or part of their country by peace agreement to the Russian and pro-Russian occupying forces: the pro-Russian nationalists and separatists of Dombass ( a region equivalent to Beauce in France), Belarusians, Chechens and Syrians all from the international cooperation of Putin's armies. The manhunt will be opened in the Ukrainian localities by the pro-Putin criminal militias to flush out and destroy the last pockets of resistance and Putin will wash his hands of it who speaks of "denazifying" as in the days of the Russian army who burned Nazi prisoners on buses for revenge in the worst possible way. Since then, his armies have ravaged Afghanistan "to train for modern warfare" and Vladimir Putin has razed GROSNY, in Chechnya. We know that they are capable of anything until the final solution, despite the human losses. It's time to act.
If we don't show solidarity today, tomorrow the Ukrainians will be on their knees and it will be too late: all their towns and villages bombarded, they will be forced to rebuild their homes and their roads one by one for 20 years. More basically, they will have to find food and work. They will have lost the ports on the Black Sea to get supplies and the wheat plains of the Dombass region to feed themselves. Against their armed resistance, Putin will impose a strict embargo and the Ukrainians will depend on our humanitarian aid or else they will starve for the next few years.
Energy prices are soaring today because of speculation and it is up to each of us to reduce these expenses. Gas and oil prices may stabilize and even reverse.
With gigantic unsaleable reserves, Putin will miss $1 billion a day to fund his armies and armaments that are ravaging Ukraine. Too bad for imperialist Russia because it was Putin who launched this war of occupation and mass destruction and not the leaders of the United States or Europe as the propaganda and disinformation in Russia claim.
